Student Accounts Canada

Student Accounts Canada (SAC) is the Canadian branch of Student Financial Services (SFS) dedicated to Canadian campus students for Toronto and Vancouver.

As a one-stop solution to all financial needs for students in Canada, we help with financial services including billing, payments, refunds, holds, scholarships, tax slips, private loans, provincial loans (Ontario Student Assistance Program and StudentAid BC), and collections.

Services are available Monday to Friday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. ET for Toronto and 8 a.m.–4 p.m. PT for Vancouver. Please note that SAC services are available on a hybrid basis.  As such, all students should seek solutions to their inquiries via the SFS How Can We Help You page, before submitting a case ticket via the SFS Student Inquiry form in the Service Now portal. For special scenarios, in-person inquiries can be arranged on an appointment-only basis.  Also note, SAC does not have a direct telephone line available.  SAC uses Viva Engage to announce seasonal and important updates.  Please note that in order to access these updates, students must have an active Northeastern email/account.

SAC responds to tickets within 5-7 business days. Due to higher volumes during peak periods, please allow 2-3 weeks for a response. Please keep an eye on Viva Engage and your NU emails for updates.

SAC AT A GLANCE:

OSAP Confirmation of Enrollment

OSAP Confirmation of Enrollments will begin as of the first day of classes. Please see the SAC Provincial Loans page and monitor your OSAP Messages and your NU email account for updates.

Private Loan Disbursements

Private Loan Disbursements for Fall 2025 are expected to begin around the 3rd week of September. Students can check their funding status online via their Private Loan lender’s online account for updates. Once a funding release date is available, NU typically receives the funding approximately 2 weeks after the release date. Each week, as disbursements are received, SAC will send emails to students directly, informing them of the funds and the processing timeline. Students are requested to refrain from submitting tickets requesting their loans to be certified as these are a continuous work in progress.

Private Loan Payments towards Outstanding Tuition

Students who receive Private Loans will have any outstanding tuition deducted from the disbursement amount. If a credit remains, that will be transferred to a student’s bank account. Applicable students will receive an email from SAC outlining their funding disbursement and allocation details. This is your “payment confirmation” of your Private Loan funding paying your outstanding tuition fees.

Enrollment Agreement & Upcoming Fees:

Tuition fees referenced in Enrollment Agreements are based on an estimated, full-time enrollment and are not actual representations of a specific student’s tuition fees. Students will be billed approximately 1 month prior to the start of their study period. Actual fees will depend on the total number of credits being taken and your program’s current Tuition Rate which can be found on the SAC Tuition and Fees page.

Provincial Attestation Letters (PALs):

Starting in 2024, the Government of Canada introduced the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), a new requirement for international students applying for a study permit to begin graduate studies in Fall 2025 and Spring/Winter 2026. For more details about how to obtain a PAL, visit the OGS Canada Webpage.

Registration Scholarships:

If you qualified for a Registration Scholarship, please note that this is a one-time award.  It will be automatically applied to your student account, after you have been issued your tuition invoice.  Students can anticipate seeing their scholarship reflected on their student account approximately 2 weeks after the add/drop date for the upcoming term.

Registration Scholarships have now been applied for eligible students.

If you have questions about the registration process, please contact your program advisor or enrollment counselor.

  • Accounts with past due balances are subjected to a Financial Hold. This will not be lifted until past due accounts are paid in full.
  • Most scholarships for Spring 2025 studies have been processed. If you received a Scholarship Awarded letter, you can make the payment for your fees, less any anticipated scholarship amounts while Spring 2025 Scholarships are pending. Once posted, if there are any discrepancies, students will be responsible for reconciling any outstanding amounts.
  • Canadian campus tuition rates can be found online. (It should be noted that Canadian campus and US campus tuition rates are housed on two, separate webpages). Students enrolled in a US campus-based program, who do not pay their fees in full by their respective due dates, are subjected to Late Fees as per the Student Finacial Services (US campus) tuition policies.
  • CO-OP charges are determined based on the credits associated with your course. Total Tuition Fees cannot be assessed until students have enrolled in their prospective courses/CO-OP sections.

Scholarships

All other scholarships will be applied within the first month of each term. Students can subtract the value of their expected scholarship and pay the difference by their tuition due date to avoid any holds or penalties being placed on their account. If an outstanding balance remains after all scholarships have been applied (by the end of September), students must settle the outstanding balance at that time, as Financial Holds will be placed on accounts in October.

Tax Season

Preparation has begun on 2025 tax slips (T2202s and T4As). To ensure accuracy on your tax documents, please ensure that you have paid your fees by their respective deadlines, have updated your full name and local address in your Student Hub. As per standard procedure, tax slips will be delivered to students via their NU emails. Please visit the Tax Slips page for more details.
