Scholarships

Internal scholarships are administered by each college’s respective admissions department. Student Accounts Canada has no jurisdiction in the decision-making process for scholarships. For eligibility criteria inquiries, please contact your college’s admissions team for details.

SAC is responsible for ensuring scholarships have been properly applied to your Canadian campus student account according to the recipient lists of each college.

Scholarships will be applied to student accounts at the start of each study period. Percentage-based scholarships will be applied based on a standard eight-credit term/quarter. After the course add/drop window has passed, all scholarships will be automatically reviewed and adjusted based on actual enrollments. All adjustments should be reflected in student accounts approximately one month after the add/drop window closes. There is no need to reach out to SAC to request the adjustment. If you have any questions about the application of a scholarship to your student account after this time period, you should send an email to SAC for assistance.

External Scholarships

External scholarships can vary.  Funds must be sent to Student Financial Services in Boston in U.S. dollars. Your NUID should also be included in the memo/notes category for processing. Please send your inquiry, or the forms to be completed, to SAC via the SFS Inquiry form for assistance. Be sure that you include the term “External Scholarship” and your NUID in your subject line.

External scholarships sent to SFS Boston will be applied to the student’s account accordingly. If all fees have been paid, or will be paid in full by the scholarship, at the time of the transfer, any credit balance remaining will be sent to the student via a CIBC outbound payment.

NOTE: All funds transferred from a U.S. Northeastern student account to a Canadian Northeastern student account will be converted at an exchange rate that is determined by the university. The pre-set rate is applicable for the fiscal year (for example, July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024). To inquire what your outstanding balance is in USD, please contact us via the SFS Inquiry form.

External scholarships issued by cheque, must be made payable to Northeastern University and must be in USD. The full student name, NUID, and campus should be in the memo, to ensure that funding is applied accordingly. Please mail USD cheques to the SFS Boston team for processing:

Scholarships Tax Slips (T4As)

All students who receive an internal scholarship will be issued a T4A tax slip in the respective tax season.  Students should report their scholarship earnings to the Canada Revenue Agency during the standard tax season. Northeastern/SAC is not responsible for issuing tax slips for any external funding, including external scholarships.
